IONIA. Ephesos. T. Ampius T.f. Balbus, proconsul, 58-57 BC. Cistophorus (Silver, 28 mm, 12.58 g, 12 h), Timostratos and Polemarchos, magistrates, CY 76 = 59/8 BC. Basket (cista mystica) from which snake coils; around, ivy wreath with fruits. Rev. T•AM-PI•T•F / PRO - COS / Oϛ / EΦE / TIMOCTPATO[C] / ΠΟΛЄMAPX[OC] Two serpents flanking tripod on which stands the cult statue of Artemis Ephesia; to right, burning torch. BMC 173. Stumpf 7. Rare and with a very sharp reverse. The obverse struck from a worn die as usual, otherwise, good very fine.
